Failure of economic sanctions
Failure of economic sanctions

Now that the wedding ceremony of Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza is over there are lessons to learn for the nation, including our media which has covered every moment, glimpse and sentiment. In order to give a different flavour to the audience TV channels did not refrain from showing their bed, cushions, bathroom and even bed-sheets!

It was embarrassing when Shoaib, in an interview to Express News criticised the media for interfering in his personal life to an extent that “he became the bodyguard of his wife” and added that the media “has made money out of his wedding” which is a “personal event”. Regardless of whether the couple is compatible or not, there is definite incompatibility between Sania Mirza’s perception of Pakistan and the perception of the press about the marriage.

Although her body language was harsh towards the people and the press, our media gave her unprecedented coverage. The media called her the ‘daughter-in-law of Pakistan’ as a goodwill gesture, which she seemed to have completely rejected. We have yet to see a glimpse of joy on her face. She looks disturbed, confused and annoyed. Maybe she is afraid of extremist Hindu elements in India who consider this nation to be too soft on terrorists. After all, it is a common perception in India that Pakistanis and its establishment support atrocities like the Mumbai attacks and give refuge to alleged terrorists like Hafiz Saeed.

Mirza’s visit to Pakistan seems to be a visit to an unfriendly state rather than to her friendly in-laws. Both the bride and groom failed to acknowledge the passion of the Pakistanis who welcomed them with open arms. Mirza expressed her displeasure at the way people welcomed her and the way they interfered with their private life. The only thing she praised was the food. This is a huge loss for Pakistan. We have lost a national hero. Shoaib Malik will be moving to Dubai. Dubai does have a higher standard of living and, unlike Pakistan, does not have any alleged involvement of sponsoring terrorism.

But is he going to remain a national hero if he lives outside the nation? People by and large are saying that the marriage is a milestone for South Asia’s peace in that it will enhance confidence between the two countries. Had peace been achieved through unpredictable relations like marriages, the region would have been stabilised ages ago, after the marriage of cricketer Mohsin Khan and actress Reena Roy. A serious approach of the Pakistani media is required to analyse something as sensitive as regional peace and national pride. The media needs to fix their professional limitations to defend the integrity of the national press.

As suggested by the couple, we should not interfere by throwing emotional welcomes. We should stop calling Sania Mirza the ‘daughter in-law of Pakistan. Pakistan’s honour is above marriages of all kinds — be they inter-state or inter-celebrity.

  1. Could’nt disagree more. Where you say: “Maybe she is afraid of extremist Hindu elements in India who consider this nation to be too soft on terrorists.” For one, the author is making a giant leap of faith stating that her unhappiness was due to political sensitivities or concerns over the perceptions of Pakistan as a sponsor of terrorism.

She never asked to be dubbed “daughter in law of Pakistan” and just because she seems to have snubbed or lived up to the title, that does not mean that we should equate our national pride with Sania Mirza’s response to the media.

As for the point that Shoaib Malik is moving to Dubai and that somehow he is no longer a national hero. For one, his status as a national hero is already in question given his one year ban. Second, there is no shortage of Pakistani cricketers who have lived abroad playing county cricket or the IPL in the past and still played for their country. If patriotism is equivalent to residency in the country, then surely members of the Pakistan armed forces who are deputed to Middle Eastern armies and air forces must be traitors!

Sir, you call on the media to be more responsible, however your article seems to display the very same symptoms that you are criticizing. Why jump to some unsubstantiated assumption that her unhappiness is due to Pakistan’s perception as a terrorist state. Could it simply not be that a 23 year old girl, newly married, under the glare of the media, in a foreign country, meeting her extended in-laws was under stress and therefore did not behave in a manner that the media deems appropriate?

  2. Our moronic media consider this freedom of press. and even people like Sanna Bucha were defending it. When infact all these so-called news channels were just being 3rd grade paparazzi, just like those who killed Diana.

  3. Good to know you noticed “Sania Mirza’s perception of Pakistan”.

Although it is funny to read your thought on “Hindu extremists” perception. Indians of all stripes and religions including Indian muslims think pakistan is a terrorist country. They think so becaue you ARE a terrorist country.

It is a different matter you are tasting your own bitter medicine in Lahore and Islamabad (LOL!) what you were sponsoring in Mumbai, Delhi and Srinagar!

On a different note Sania’s market value, brand value has plummeted since she married some one from the terrorist country. She would have maintained her market value if she had married any other muslim from any other country- Bangladesh, Syria, Turkey, Saudi Arabia- alas she married a terroristani! brand value poops in India.

  4. Well, Mr. Kamran, had they broken the stage of your wedding ceremoney, turned over the dining tables, spied on you and your wife every minute or of any other journalist for that matter, you’d probably feel the same and react similarly. Our media needs to learn that breaking into people’s lives and houses is NOT their right in the name of “freedom of speech & expression”. Grow-up guys!

  5. hello i am waqas , of age 20 (student)
and i dont think that sania mirza has got out from a traditional narrow minded indian way of thinking. her gestures and talks are clearly indicating that she has not sincered with pakistani hospitality,
but our duffer PRINT & ELECTRONIC MEDIA has played a great role to highlight this useless incident,
there are lot of other issues b/w india and Pakistan to discuss but unfortunately our media managers are cheap and sold persons..
    nothing else……
they just want a charm in their news but not real facts….

  6. At the moment we are amongst the crisis of electricity, water, Gas, Government, etc and in a week or two we all gonna forget about Sania Mirza and her confused husband. So let people forget them and dont write more about them.

  7. The article is well written, most things are right I was upset seeing sania so unfriendly and rude towards us I am thinking we should have batted for Ayesha a little more atleast in each interview of hers she was acknowledging Pakistani people and media

  8. @Danish: I completely agree with you; it was heartbreaking to see the same paparazzi effect/ showdown everywhere the couple and their family members went.

  9. it is beyond my understanding why people has become so involved in the personnal matter of two people.Sania has taken big risk to select shoib her life partner leaving the Indians.we,here in Pakistan , could not make smooth arrangements in dinner and then in valima.what a failure on ourside? Now she is wife of Shoib,a Pakistani and does not matter if she accept it or not.

  10. what i under stand from the whole coverage of couple through their visit to Pakistan. the role of media was negative/shameful/black mailing. they forced the couple to compromise with them through negative rumors. Is their any moral values lying in our media or simply media mean go any where, any time, purpose less.

  11. I completely agree with Nadir. I think hers was just a case of stress more than anything else. If I am getting hounded and pounded by the media and the fans at the airports, hotels, any place except my hotel room, I would be pretty overwhelmed as well and definitely would not be smiling. I think the media and the fans went over board on this one. Had they given her just a little bit more space, the results would have been different. Two functions, both marred by crowd behavior, how pathetic! I never believed in that bhabi stuff either. I think two people just got married, we should have been just happy that she chose a Pakistani but we instead started giving her all these stupid titles.

  12. Again the writer is interfering in the personal matters of a couple and seems to be proud of it instead of being apologetic. These days Pakistani media thinks of them selves as angels and saviors of the nation and assume that what ever they say is truth. And who says they are independent and free? apart from being fed and used by establishment, their freedom and impartiality is also limited by personal interests, unprofessionalism, low exposure and monetary interests of their channels.

  13. Kamran,

The truth of the matter is that due to ratings, channels are going to move towards sensationalism. You unfortunately appear to be one who will be drowned by this tidal wave. Make people fight, go into people’s private lives and follow your producer’s dictum that conflict is drama.

By the way she gave an interview with Shoaib on Express and there was no hostility from her.

  14. I’ll completely agree with Nadir’s comments above and would like to add that, our media is given a free-hand (well to much extent) but there is certainly the lack of professionalism when it comes for them to dissever good and bad! They certainly lack that envision of collecting and disseminating the real news. Sensation is all our media is looking for! They need to seek the path of professional journalism where there is a responsibility of a much higher level then trying to solve the conundrums of glitzy media news only!

  15. How can you expect healthy reactions from Sania, when your media teased her with their unethical abilities. A simple report should be enough. I found Pakistan Media exactly the same as Indian Media, unethical and immature. The Nation of Pakistan is much more strong in their tradition and love. I believe one day she will realize and will play for Pakistan.

  16. Had Shoaib/ Sania not thrashed Pakistani media, they would have installed cams even in their bedroom. Our media has pushed couple to the limits, they called Sania “daugher in law of Pakistan” but couldn’t give respect what she deserved. The so called “Devars” had literally mobbed “Daughter in law of Pakistan” and so had our media. They had installed cameras on every possible corner with the proud announcements that they were the first ones to cover “daughter in law of Pakistan” exercising in gym wearing track suit early morning. Who in Pakistan spies on “Bhabhies” like this ?

Our media and people at large have really disappointed Sania and her family, the nation was happy but there is a thing called being cultured, our media knows nothing about it. Even the PM’s son Abdul Qadir Gilani was seen misbehaving/ pushing a man during valima dinner of Shoaib in Lahore. (Waqt Tv covered this scene)

I agree with Shoaib when he showed displeasure towards media and over all public’s behavior. In order to save Sania’s grace it would be a good move to live elsewhere but Pakistan.

  17. Regarding the Marriage of Sania & Shoeib; I feel we (Pakistanis) have shown their extraordinary welcome and happiness. Our media; politician; Govt personnel and people ; all have given to them great importance and if its a pride for Pakistan. We are actually loving Nation and to represent such type of hospitality is emobied in our blood. Now, what we have demonstrated should not be repeated. We should completely take the marriage as common and simple matrimonial affair. We should avoid to give Sania so much importance and pride. I dont want to add any thing about Shoieb as i feel he is under great stress and he should keep his dignity and equal rights as a husband. We pray and wish happy life based on the Principle of Islam.

  18. …talking of Body Language? With all due respects to the fans of Kamran Shahid’s”NationalHero”,the body language of our Shoaib is SIMPLE:’Joru ka Ghulam’.We should be grateful to Sania for bringing back our dumped NATIONAL HERO on the news again.Happy Marriage in any case.

  19. I Consider Shoaib and Sania marriage is a non issue on which our media hip is not understood if our media put all their energies and create a hip on our sister Afia Siddiqui who is in USA jail and verdict is expected on 6th MAY 2010 can media wake up our leaders from their slumber and create a HIP on the media then showing Shoaib and Sania marriage and how they going to live we are not interested Our media interest should be on AFIA SIDDIQUI high lite the injustice she is going through and our Governament is doing nothing PLEASE WAKE THEM UP

  20. I would agree with this guy Danish — “Our m** media consider this freedom of press. and even people like Sanna Bucha were defending it. When infact all these so-called news channels were just being 3rd grade paparazzi, just like those who killed Diana.” Not sure who’s Bucha and who killed Diana but Danish is right when he says that our media needs to grow up – you dont call this freedom of press, we shouldnt get too much carried away just because they are celebrities; they are humans after all and they need their space.

p.s: On a lighter note, pinky i agree with you we should spread love

  21. I am grateful to Express Tribune for providing us a forum from where our “learned journilsts cum anchorpersons”,who have assumed the role of reformers insted of jounlists ,may perhaps be able to get some feedback from their readers and viewers who are at their mercy once they tune up a TV channel.Mr. Shahid, with due apology Sir,I have seen you literally querrelling with the politicians you are interviewing on TV,if I am not wrong. In the present article, paradoxically, you are also serving the same job, knowingly or unknowingly, you are refraining from your media to.Isnt it true?.Please read your article again and again.Infact you are cooking your dish at the cost of the family life of a newly married couple which belongs to two countries where hawks predominate the doves. What are you tryijng to gain, my dear, out of this. What kind of response can you expect with reference to India from Shoaib for the things you are criticising Sania for.Are you not trying to poison their personal life? Can you deny the comments of your distinguished reader Mr. Raj.Shoaib and Sania are not two political figuers to rule over these countries but two stars equally popular amongst the masses in both countries, who have married together. We should not think,go and expect beyond that,I personally believe.

  22. All Pakistani news channels have become third class propoganda machines and their only purpose is to make money. Showing someone’s family members pictures on TV who are not celebrities is against invaision or pricay law, which also exist in Pakistan. Shoiab and Sania should Sue all these third class news channels, and trach them a lesson for making money out of their marriage.

  23. @raj who r u to say
“Indians of all stripes and religions including Indian muslims think pakistan is a terrorist country. They think so becaue you ARE a terrorist country”.
did u took comments from millions of people in india to give this comments ? :@
Regarding Shoaib n Sania’s marriage i fell Pakistani media gave them a great hype and due to that reception n valima was mishandled.
As far title of ‘Daughter in law of PAKISTAN’ is concerned I feel she is just shoaib’s wife nothing more that that.

  24. Yes. we went beyond limits. she would be a daughter in law of pakistan if she lived in Pakistan. however they have simply refused. she even said that i was an indian and will remain indian. so when there is nothing of our pride so why such celebration and giving such names.

  25. Kamran is partly right. We have to judge the facts in the context of overall cynicism and attitude of Indian Muslims towards Pakistanis.

I believe Shoiab Malik will have to face a confused life in days to come. He was so compassionate in response to Indian media’s all type of allegations while he has shown low tolerance to Pakistani media’s hugging. There may be identity crisis at the part of Sania Mirza too.

I am not sure as to why this marriage will remain successful?

  26. I don’t think any Indian’s care about Sania marrying a Pakistani Muslim – some Indian muslim’s were surprised that she broke her engagement – but its her life after all.

Sania’s case is more of wasted talent – all coaches and great ex player’s etc predicted that she could be a top 10 Player provided she works on some aspects of her game and trains hard….but what happened – she was never of the fitness required at the world level – and after reaching world no 30 3 years ago – she is now ranked below 100 and loses mostly in the 1st 2nd round of all tournaments.

When she was ranked in the top 30 – she did get some major endorsement’s from companies in India but as all sportsperson’s are aware – if you dont play well – the money will disappear…

That’s what Sania Mirza is – just another case of wasted talent due to lack of hard work.

  27. well I do agree with Bilal. I don’t know where our media is heading towards. Right now we don’t have electricity on average 12 to 16 hours in each area of Pakistan. Totally economic disaster is evident. only the rate of inflation and crime is escalatin in Pakistan. I don’t know why media is after secondary issues. How long we are going to see such wordings on news channels “sab sey pehlay”?
Meida is an important pillar of our society, if that pillar is misdirected then how could we expect the building to stand in normal.
I don’t beleive that there should be any censor on media in a democratic country but now it is high time that major media palyers sit togather and should form a board or a committee to restrict its uneven deeds by itself.

I had the mixed feelings of laughter and sorrow, when our Media experts were discussing the facial expressions of Sania. Let them live their own lives

  28. ASA! How are You? I like your show very much. Doing great job! I totally agree with you kamran bhai! The attitude that Shoaib & sania showed to Pakistani people and media was not good. As compare to what media and PAKISTANI people have done for them.

  29. Well KAMRAN brother your column was good. but from my point of view is it necessary for the people of media to interfere in the personal matter of some one social life, although i think u guyz are doing great job but if had given such importance to the matter of DR.AAFIA, than she wuld have been releaased.. thnx regards

  30. Shoaib-Sania are tied in a nuptial knot, thats it….why we are overstating the facts and glamourizing the wedlock, The basic principles of journalism was completely lack in the entire coverage of Shoaib-Sania wedding.

Interestingly we are associating this marriage to the peace in South Asia region that is totally ridiculous. Sania has been said several times that she is born in India and will support India in every position. Kamran underscored a very good point pertaining to National Hero who is going to settle in Dubai…Huhhh…

    How to sensitize our media?…

  31. Well said Kamran,
Thanks God that its over. We were over overwhelmingly obsessed with this marriage..Pakistan is far most facing hard issues..God knows when we will proved to be a mature nation..

  32. Thank God, finally some one from media has taken it serious. Its only a marriage of two persons rather the marriage of two nations. Indian people and media did not give any importance to this marriage. But un expectedly our media made this marriage a Brakeing news. I think the time has come that media should take some kind of responsibility.

  33. First of all I almost agree with kamran shahid and secondly shoaib malik is not a good plzyer and never had a good cricket. He is a average player and has luck to select in most of the matches and likewise Sania is also a club level player. But our media made this event a huge and did cover it all the time ,which is not good sign of over media .

  34. Whenever there was the segment of Shoaib’s marriage with an Indian girl on TV I switched the channel. The same thing happened in my almost entire social circle.
I don’t understand what has gotten into media, giving so much attention to a third class cricket player who has fallen for an indian flasher.
A common Pakistani’s opinion on the coverage of this marriage is “bus bhi karo yar, lanat bhejo dono per”. But the cheap tricks of Geo TV are insisting people to watch about this marriage.
On that note I’d like to add that Pakistani journalists and electronic media is a pile of rubbish and nothing more. Pakistani TV channels have embarrassed the straightout Pakistanis. We don’t give two s**ts to Shoaib and Sania on their marriage. Our concern is Free Kashmir.
The two countries are in state of war since the independence and peace is unthinkable until Indian army stops raping Kashmiri women and murdering Kashmiri children and are given the right of self-determination.

Come on face the ground realities.

  35. Too many news channels in pakistan createays.d a race between them that who z going to telecast a lot of masalah for thier viewers. With sorrow we have to admit that it had made the whole situation critical for the couple n they left next day of walima .media should stop doing this irritating coverages. i agree with u kamran.Ur article just true n explains the whole situation that were in pak during those days.

  36. To be very true, I was having the same fellings as Kamran Shahid but the difference is that I noted this meaningless act from Pakistani media in the early days of marriage but he mentioned it very late. I will support Shoaib Malik for his sayings that media has involved in my personal life. I think he is quite right by saying so.Why has media given that much popularity to that Indian lady? Marriages are not that new events, its happening from the day when human being was created.Secondly one of my friends said that Pakistani media takes that much interest in this event because the Indian media is opposing this marriage. But I simply replied that its total stupid act as Pakistani media should gather the proofs about the involvement of India in Balochistan or they should criticised Indea for blaming Pakistan in Mumbai attacks case.. What was the need to capture the video of Sania and Shoaib in gymneseum …. What
could i say more but the main thing is that every body should perform their their duties at their own places so that we can be considered as a unique nation ….

  37. its a good article.

KAMRAN BHAI, why didn’t you mention that our PM, in all his senses, awarded them the status of STate Guests. He spent so many money on them, the money that has been sqeezed from our blood. This could have been spent on the event like collective wedding of many couples.

Shame on Govt. and media both

  38. Kamran, Pakistani public remained in severe pain for few weeks due to recent unmatched marriage though personal choice. Our immature media felt that this is the only news that can possibly bring smile on the face of hurted, stressed, frustrated, disappointed and gloomy nation, I am sure still failed. Our so called leaders (Governors, ministers etc.) were cheaply trying to benefit themselves thorugh this media “Dangal”. Shoaib’s future in cricket is a question mark, he is facing charges, never enjoyed a class as a cricketer, no education etc. but still declared “national hero” by our leaders and media. What Sania said was expected, she will not choose to live in Pakistan rather Shoab will follow her till this greement stays. Please stop this discussion any more and bring topics on the table to highlight/resolve endless issues we people are facing….please keep going the way you are. Good luck

  39. salam,
i like to answer to some indian peaples comments on this column. plz u indians must realize that u people never praised any pakistani hero. u peaples r such a possessive nation. u people always afraid from pakistanies. for example what u act in ipl bidding. also ur misbehave and allegation behavior to shoib, when he came india to bring their daughter of all nation. plz first u all indians must watch ur actions then say anything to clear urself….

i hope no body can feel bad.. because i show mirror to all those people.

    regards
    shezadda e pakistan

  40. Its a story of “A Greedy, Bookie and Gambler Pakistani and 2 shrewd Indian women one trapped Shoaib while he was 18 and the other one chose shoiab after her being continued failure in Tenis. Shoaib being an average player and a trouble maker in national team banned for his deeds.which turned into a wedding to make money for both of them. A mathematical equation.
Single Shoaib = Banned and disgraceful Pakistani cricketer famous for fixing matches and ruining the unity among team.
Single Sania = Shrewd Indian disgraceful among Indian Muslims due to her Bold show of body and flesh, fake rist injury and continued failure in international Tenis.
Shoiab + Sania = Recovery from bad patch and lots of Money
If you look at the patriotism of both Sania has proved her self Pure Indian while she said she is not a Pakistani daughter in law. On the other hand Shoaib never tried to comment on these remarks.
Now if you see when all that game begin Shoaib was the one who flew to India and been humiliated by Indians.
Sania when she came in Pakistan she showed her inner Indian and the Hate expressions were crystal clear all over on her face.
The innocent and open hearted Pakistanis welcomed her but she didn’t accept their love.

  41. I think the role of media is very much childish.Freedom of media does not mean that you are free to do everything, media should know his limitations. There are other important issues in our country, it seems like all other problems of our country are solved and media has no other work to do, so they are continuoslly showing sania-shoaib coverage. On the other hand it looks like that our so called hero shoaib is of no value because media is all the time showing sania and trying to talk to her and on an interview shoaib is sitting like an idle and the reporter is asking all the questions from sania, infact shoaib was right he was looking like her bodyguard istead of her husband.
Sania has given right slap on the face of our media by saying she is not Pakistan’s daughter-in-law.
Now media should show some sense of responsilibility and stop highlighting such stupid issues as there are already a lot of issues to be discuss in our country.

  42. Excellent,
I am also of the view that marriages cnt settle dispute between countries. Because in moderen world govts are concerned with their nation agendas not wid some personalites. and as fro india is concerned its not possible for indian govt to go against his national concern on behalf of single personality. If media of paksistan thinks so its da totli lack of political sense.

  43. 100% Agree with you and the great artical, the media shoud not give them the type of courage they gave, she on many places said that her marraige nothing to do with Pakistan and India, calling her daugter in law of Pakistan, its very awful.

    Great Job Kaman!
    Thanks
    Salman Ali

  44. First of all i think so that our media should not get into anyone,s personal problem. They should not give any importance to these type of things. If media will do this then how can media say that they should not use harsh words.Yes,they will use.So try not to interfere in anyone,s personel life. And why we gave so much importance to them when they came pakistan. If they are showing attitude then leave them at their own condition.you know what indians did with shoaib.Their media was treating badly with shoaib. Then why we announced sania as a chief guest. So please think on it.

  45. No one but Shoaib Malik has disgraced Pakistanis and above all himself. I’d like to bring something to the knowledge of this Web site’s visitors that Pakistanis never actually expected any cultured behaviour from that daughter of India nor a common Pakistani is inclined to see more Indian women being brought to the country.
Those who cherished were mostly the fans of Shoaib Malik. And Pakistani politicians, well, they had political manoeuvres in mind.
An ordinary Pakistani citizen is least interested in making Indian women the daughters of Pakistan, we need good seeds.

  46. agree with you mr. kamran… i dnt understand why media is giving so much coverage to them… as there are so many issues in our country.. its just a marrige guyz… their personal matter.. why playing such stupid indian songs on them.. it looks so cheap.. now its time to get out of these stupid things…

  47. i agree with kamran that media needs to fix professional limitations……the article is well written..there could be two reasons of sania’s harshness towards pakistan’s media and people no. one she was not expecting such a great welcome no.2 which kamran shahid said is the fear of extremist hindu elements………..but sania and shoaib were already annoyed from media of india but unfortunately they were not able to make such a hullabaloo in india so they made in pakistan………..what ever happened in their marriage was obvious as people consider shoaib a national hero and want to attend his marriage ceremony.it was on shoaib to arrange his marriage ceremony somewhere else …if he can plan to live in dubai then why not marriage in dubai…!

  48. kamran bhai i’ve recently sent u a link video and a message through facebook about Dr.Afia Siddiqui… but you did’nt replied … may i know why????

  49. I just want to say one thing. Media captured every moment of Shoaib and Sania. But did not talk about a single word about Dr. Israr Ahmad. This was so sad. I am not talking about religious prospective, he was also our national scholar.

  50. Its a case of sour grapes .. first Pak media raised the hype, and then when Sania didn’t buy into their game, Pak media is whinning ..

  51. Miss Sania slap on pakistani faces and the person who’s resposible for that is Shoab Malik & 2nd is our media. because our media that much coverage them which they didn’t desirved. Mr Shahid i watch your program on regular basis but i want to ask a question tnat IS MEDIA WERE DOING THE DUTY? What about Dr Afia, load sheding, unemployment, poor people voice, & real truth? Pakistani were dancing for unknown joy but if they were ask to come out for Dr Afia & many other issues they never comes out but for irrilivent things they are ready and media gives full courag.

  52. nice article Mr. kamran. the media should give as much coverage to someone as he/she deserves. not more than that please.

  53. i am also agree with you who have wrote this peragrapg about sania miras wedding. in my openion it is wrong. we have many problem in our country then we should not focus only on this type of matters

  54. i didn’t read others comments yet but when i will be abble to read i will answer them. but now i just want to say to all news paper that why we run around sania’s marraige those who write in news paper about his marraige they should be shamefull because if they say it is embarrsing matter they critisice on it them why they give full pages regarding marraige ceremony in news papers why again and again they tell us news on media. they should not do it rather than they only do one thing which is that we all should act as there is no sania mirza and no one is sho\ohaib. we should forget them that they were in our pakistan.

  55. and iam aslo disagree with that point that “sania mirza is a daughter-in-law of pakistan” she is not and i dont consider her as daughter-in-law op pakistan. if someone from india had marreid with any girl related with sport feild or acting the people of India would not have accepted pakistani girl then why we dit sania on our head.

  56. It’s not about deserving or not deserving media attention. It’s about invasion of privacy. It’s about harassing someone just because he/she is a celebrity.

The amount of coverage the couple received in a country suffering with innumerous ‘serious’ problems just proved how immature and cheap our media can be.

  57. Dear All ,

My greatings to All there and Specially to Mr Kamran Shahid, He is one of my Fav anchor person in Media world. Please allow me to share my views on the issue. The article is absolutely true and the points raised by Kamran are unbiased. Well I personally add here my 10 points.

1.Sania is a tennis star and career oriented women, Indian national and she married to Shoaib at the prime of her career.
2.Sania’s family is settled in India and there are eminent threats to her and her loved ones back in India by radical Hindu extremists in case if she determines to be the Daughter in Law of Pakistan. She must not be in a position to choose between the two. It’s a matter of life and death for her.
3.Sania’s doesn’t seem committed in staying in Pakistan and they both agreed on staying in Dubai as it is the hub between the two neighbours. She still in the peaks of her careers and she eager to play for India. After all India has bestowed her many offerings, she must not think to deprive her family and her self of such titles and respects she has now.
4.Sania’s arrogance about the reception of jubilant Pakistani crowed is something really unpleasant and un ethical, she lacks common diplomatic norms.
5.The role of media should not be called in questions here , as the nation felt little relieved and the round the clock coverage in media too added a showering factor on the burning & suffering deprived of power and Gas arrogant Nuclear Nation.
6.Pakistani media followed the turns and traits of Indian media, which was more then active and lost of reports telecasted in our media, were taken from Indian News Channels. It was reported the OB’s on different were seen halted out side the main gate of Sania for days just to catch the glimpse.
7.Shoaib’s doesn’t deserve indemnity in this scenario because he was aware of this situation very well when he flew to India for marriage.
8.Shoaib role regarding his former wife Ayesha was very condemnable, in the beginning he denied any connections with Ayesha and later the Video showed he was attending a dinner hosted in honour of Pakistani team and seen garlanding his relative there. His statements added embarrassment in the whole situation and as a start and ambassador of Pakistan in Cricket and in India; they way he was unveiled in case was such an unworthy way. He should seek pardon from Nation.
9.Shoaib’s earliest acquittal from Ayesha’ case both from her parents and the Indian courts was due to the media campaigning.
10.There are evident reports that Shoaib’s family sold out the reception tickets to earn money , if he was so conservative about Sania, why he did not take a step in requesting media to remain away from his personal life , when he needs the support of media he enjoyed it and when the things are settled down he is bashing. This is a lesson to media as well.

Many Regards and Thanks for reading me till end.

  58. salam
i think they dont deserve this kind of warm wellcome .we should leave talking about them.

  59. This attitude on the part of the much talked about couple is really a big slap on our media that would really get into anyone’s bedroom to get a scoop..an exclusive footage.etc. We work in this field too but i think media should have played a responsible role rather than going over the top for nothing. Silly media of ours should not just cover events for the heck of it or just to gain viewership but there’s something called media ethics which no one studied in theory.
It could have been just another simple wedding had our media not created such a hype. Ofcourse everyone hated sania mirza’s attitude n it was much talked about later when they left..but there was a silent message for the pakistani media to learn as well.

  60. Well Brother..as far as concerning about private life of couple it is clear that if they want to be alone or if they do not want to have coverage of media or any personality they have right to do so. And they are also just as humanbeings as we are. So one thing that is very important for media is that we should not highlight such non sense people’s events if they reveal hate or prejudice for Pakistan. Even if Malik want to say Bye to Pakistan, we should not have any sympathy for him by saying that he is a hero he is a star or anything like that. We should let him go silently and should gift him nothing ore than hate.
    Thank you Very Much

  61. This article is very hasty and as Sania has denied that she is has ever said that she will not change her name to that of his husband in the interview with Geo. She said that she could not smile all the time because of 1000’s of people were clobbering on the couple and she was feeling the tension. That did not mean she was unhappy, which seems an appropriate answer. You mean to say that the Pakistani media should not have covered this marriage for the reason because Sania was not smiling seems absurd or she does not respect Pakistan seems very hasty. Please give her the benefit of your own doubts.

She is right it is a marriage between two people and she is not bothered if Sohaib is Indian or Pakistani.

This means it is the problem with the media that feels that whether a country is honored or insulted. Why do we bring any country being insulted or honored if the marriage is for love and not a political one anyway.

  62. Media created an unneccessary hype by interfering in the very personal issue of two mature and patriotic nationals of Pak and India. Whta we wanted out of Mrs Malik that she should join Pak Armed Forces and start fighting against India or she should first play tennis from Pak then wed. I think the reaction of both bride and bride groom was Ok , just think that if paparizis start stalking and following our personal lives as we did with Shoaib and Sani what would be our reactions.media has to difine its limit bcoz it is a famous qout that , ” Your liberty stops from where my nose starts.”But it doest’nt at all mean that we should have not given coverage to this event.but moderation is the best policy.

  63. We do not need daughter in law like Sania Mirza. If she can not respect others then she has no right to be loved. Even i would request to sania mirza that plz take Shoib Malik with you. We also do not need him.Their complains with Media was 200% right but atleast they should have said few good words for Pakistan. He is not the first Pakistani who has done that, there other examples like Adnan sami and Komal Rizvi.
I would request India to accept our Mir Jafar Son in law.

  64. @Raj People like you make me feel disgusted, you are victim of your own hatred and you’ll die with nothing but a black heart.

  65. Mr kamran,
It is not a matter of interpretation its, what her (sania mirza) body and face expressions says very loud and clear, its only our wishful & immature fantasy thinking, which has been on our media for countless days and nights,
We Pakistanis are in the habit of thinking from the core of our heart and newer bothered to trouble the brain thinking in real terms; this is why our people and media feel embarrassed

  66. Though article was well written but I don’t agree with you Kamran on two things particularly when u said that Shoaib is our national hero & secondly Sania is not Pakistan’s daughter-in-law.
I never saw Shoaib justifying his status being our National Hero; however found him involved in many controversies whether it belongs to his personal life or sports. He never proved himself our National hero; we had noticed that he took many decisions only for his own sake and now if he is shifting to Dubai, why we are saying that we might lose our HERO?? Come on he is not our Hero at all and if he is so then why the hell he is prepared to put down our country’s integrity over his wife’s pleasures. Again he is proving that how important his personal affairs would be, so please don’t disrespect Pakistan by saying him our National Hero……!!
Secondly Kamran u said, ‘Sania, Not Pakistan’s daughter-in-law’… hey come on, no matter what we are saying but the fact is that She is Pakistan’s daughter-in-law after marrying Shoaib Malik. Yes we can condemn her behaviour being daughter-in-law and yes we all agree that the respect we are giving her really not meant to be but still she is our daughter-in-law.
When Shoaib Malik disrespect Pakistan why the hell we are expecting Sania Mirza to respect Pakistan and its people. And why the hell we are expecting Mirza’s family to respect Pakistan either. And secondly our conduct whether it’s Media or public we simply ruined our image before them by giving useless coverage and by interfering too much into their personal matter. I believe we deserve the smack Shoaib & Sania given us.

  67. I totli agree wid u saira on the issue of shoib dat he has never been a hero second issue abot sania i think dis is not ma level to discuss her reali i think so

  68. Bravo Kamran !……..well done ! i agree i agree i agree…iam happy atleast someone has taken step to write on this….she hurt all Pakistani despite of the fact that we welcomed her with all our affection and love.on the other hand i must say one thing that media should also not get involve in someone’s personal life….neverthelesss,it was totally done out of love which she harshly rejected …

  69. they were stars thats why they married now its not their private matter,

Pakistani’s are always welcome any one to Pakistan with big heart,

    cheers

  70. Gud to see that lot of people giving their comment on this blog but the matter of the concern is this that why we are giving such a mighty response to these kinds of articles, the simple truth is that we all like some sensation in the news…do comment on some other blogs also it seems like that all the people like that issue to be highlighted.take a deep breath and have fun and be try to make yourself a true petriotic pakistani.
    PAKISTANI ZINDABAD……..
and dont give such a mighty kind of response to these kind of opinions

  71. very well said, media should avoid any more coverage of these two people, there are so many other serious issues in this country which need more attention..kamran’s article must be sent to all pakistani news channels to understand that they were wrong to give unnecessary hype to this wedding..media should cover sports rather than personal life’s moments, i think sania mirza is not afraid of any hindu extremists, she got married with malik by her own choice and love,,she supported malik very boldly in india when he was in deep trouble because of ayesha and indian media..and at that time she was not scared of any extremist… above all marriage is a affair of 2 human beings, its merelly a very personal issue one should avoid to poke his nose into such matters..A country where terrorism is on peak, suicidal attack is a regular feature, nobody can identify who is miscreant in a large gathering so the only option left for these couple just to avoid such gathering..and when management of5starhotel and our so called high alert security arrangement could not handle the situation in a receptions of sialkot and lahore then how can you expect that sania should have forward to wave her fans!!! oh it may be life threatening isn’t it…remember we already have lost big bb to appease the public..

  72. I’am agree with your one point Dr.Jahanzaib that, “we alredy have lost our mother of Nation Mohtarma Benazeer Bhutto Sahiba. why no one pays attention to his murder investigation? why our pakistani news paper write ragarding investigation. Zardari has payed 70000000 to Un but depite it UN did give us the Name of those evil peoples how have been invovled in it.

  73. @ Sajraam:
WAOW Mother Of nation: “benazir Bhuttoo”
how such corrupt peoples could be given such great titlles???? amazing!!
after reading such comments i realized its not a nation instead a juxtaposition of many Sheeps and Goats……who never differentiate b/w right and wrong.

  74. well written and to me 100% factual, media and some people went crazy for miss Sania who seemed not interested in giving good gesture back, though we need to understand miss Sania worries as well which you highlighted very well about Hindu Extremists, shiv sena thugs…

  75. She is right. Marriage should be taken as individual-to-individual bond. Our scandal-hungry media created euphoria among masses about the wedding of Shoaib and Sania Mirza.Media should have given more coverage to the issues of national significance instead of spending their resources on a matter of trivial nature.

  76. we should not blame sania for her attitude it is all we over reacted to there wedding.i dont shoiab malik is a national hera he is banned for a year due to his negative activities during aus tour.and what is so special about sania more than she is an indian.people and specially the media should show maturity for now forget them they were not able to that kind of attention and respect.

  77. salam evryone……….
i agree with kamran and actually i am taken aback by seeing sooooooooooo much media coverage.media had done far more than invasion into their lives. evryone marries so vats an extraordinary issue with them…….y media created so hype,it does not make any sense….if i am getting married n media shows my bedroom.my bathroom even the bedsheets, thats understood i wont lyk it n i wil b xtremely rude to the media……..
n another thing during al this sania-shoaib episode.it seemed v al had forgotten the sensitive issues of pakistan.it seemed their mariage is the most important issue ov pakistan. n thn “head ov state” sort ov protocol, stay in presidential suite…..it is something that they didnt deserv at all….
n i agree vd kamran.she z not daughter in law ov pakistan.she isnt evn willing for using her husband`s name, not even living in pkistan.so she doesnt deserve ths caption “daughter in law ov pakistan”
    regards!

  78. Tying the nuptial bliss simply implies a new journey in one’s life towards happiness, growth and preparing for more responsibilities as a citizen of the society. How a woman and a man can expect and work out achieving these goals with so much uproar at the initial stage of such a sacred relationship is beyond understanding.

I wish and pray that the couple enjoy every moment of their married life, but there do not seem to be bright chances of the success of this relationship due to a number of. Hindu extremists are definitely an important factor as Sania’s parents and other family members have to stay in India for the rest of their life. Another factor is her desire to continue playing tennis and certainly she would not be playing in a jogging suit!

  79. i dont agree to this article
we must say good luck to both rarther than criticizing them

  80. Sania is not the only girl from India who is married to a Pakistani, ok she & shoaib are celebrities ,but does that mean media is allowed into the personal affairs ,what if the same is done to our high profile media personalities of Pakistan.
Pakistan has enough problem on many fronts, we as a nation should try to overcome the hurdles, think what would our children would inherit if we are focused on useless gossipy material.
Try to make LAND OF THE PURE a nation of achievers .

  81. Many Pakistanis (and Indians) just assumed Sania marrying Shoaib was about Sania’s rejecting India and embracing Pakistan. That excited many, angered many. The first group is now dissapointed. All of them should go back leading their own lives, and letting these two lead their own.

  82. this is not an issue to make the media is just hiding the facts of Dr. aafia siddiqi. At this moment our media have to help aafia siddiqi instead of showing nonsense. And in the end what they are getting from our national hero “the media has earned money on my personal occasion”.

  83. The media is asking for freedom of expression but it is quite evident from hostory that only few knows the use of freedom in a responsible way. It appears that media is Making news which are infact NOT news any way. It should have code of conduct to punish irresposible people, if media can’t make code of conduct for themself………..then they don’t have right to critize others

  84. Well, so sad we are still living in a society whr mairige is not considered as a social contract but a war, whr the one is considered as loser whos daughter is gets married and the other as winners. Paki media has shown ths sentiment especially the channel to which u belong. And i qoute as one of your anchors said that india shall now make another Veer Zarra but this time thay shall show veer as a Pakistani. Interesting to note the Paki media went to the levels so tht won got an impression that Pak somhow has defeated india. Many ppl have married across the borders some of them wel known but such a mayhem was never created. It has become the habit of this media to make a fuss about everythng….the only thing they forgive is the Pak Army for their own sake

  85. I think we should use our head in such matters than heart.Shoaib n sania was nt happy with media coverage then y media was sooo crazy to gv each n every glimpse of their wedding?Ok we can understand sania’s reaction bcoz she had to move bk to india thts y she was very careful while gvng statements, behaving n all that.bt for me Shoaib’s reaction n behaviour n style was really disappointing n bad.I thnk he arranged n attended all the functions here wd sooooooooooooo difficulty n fly bk to her wife’s country happily.
So i just want to say that we should deal wd such matters by using our heads n nt hearts.i may b wrong bt thats whts required by the time.
    Allah hafiz

  86. Only a nation like this would spare so much time to read and react seriously on such a trivial issue! Shame on you, Pakistanis!

  87. n for the Article … Shoaib is the planner !! n a bad one .. he tried to kicked out Younis for the teams .. he dun deserve all this hype!

  88. Dear Kamran Bhai…

I don’t understand why media is giving so much coverage (hype awain hi) to them…specially “Shoaib ki bivi only” as you know that there are so many issues in our country, its just a marrige only i think… their personal matter.. n e way yar media walo plz abh bas kardoo had hogyee…. one thing that Sania disapointed all of our nation!!!!

    thanks,

    Naeem Ahmed
    Karachi

  89. pakistani media is becoming modern–
i like this format of express tribune
    nice article

  90. I think we should become mature now and will not try to invest our time in weddings like rthis

  91. well media is commercial and will remain to show whatever is in demand amongst the masses. However I do not see a point in calling Sania the daughter in law of the nation. According to her she married a human without considering whether he is a Pakistani or not. Shoiab’s future although uncertain due to a year ban, is still connected to Pakistan no matter where he stays. Professional Cricketers travel through out the year and barely get a chance to spend even few months in a stretch in the country of their origin. During the entire Sania Shoaib wedding what appaled and struck me the most was the way our officials honoured Sania. We had and still have cricketers of the calibre of Imran, Waseem, Waqar and MOhammad Yousaf but the coverage that this paricular wedding attracted was unprecedented. If sania’s status of a sportswoman from India was the reason then I think Shoaib should have also given the same treatment in India but I am afraid that this was not the case. Its unacceptable for the Government of a poor country like Pakistan to present Sania with gifts purchased on state funds and putting in place a huge machinery of administration for the security of a single person when dozens of this country’s own citizens die everyday in bombs and war conflicts.
Last but not least I must add here that celebrities are public property and therefore media will tend to chase them wherever they go, however the amount of coverage will vary. Those who disagree should see what goes on in the West where photographers barge into people’s homes. Diana and Doddy lost their lives just to escape from media incursions. Hence criticizing media for interfering sounds absurd!

  92. Well said Kamran Sahab, We all Pakistanis are now well aware that Pakistani Media is over reacting on each and every event and try to cash it even it is a bloody bomb blast or some one’s personal matter like Shoaib’s marriage. Pakistani media should become mature now and draw some lines which should not be crossed.

  93. I totally agree with all this and the moment i read Sania’s comments i wrote my comment in yur facebook frontline with Pakistan Group that by saying all this that i m not “Pakistan’s Bahu”, and just the wife of Shoaib Malik..Sania ne Pakistan k mun pe joota mara hey..this is the height of insult from a foreigner..Our media has given this wedding a totally unnecessary projection..compared to the warm welcome that the couple received in Pakistan and especially the official protocol that it received what did the Indian Government do for them? And just look at our nationa hero who remained denying his first wedding with Ayesha, finally divorced her. After all if he had to divorce her then why should he had to deny..And i can’t understand why do our Government and people talk about peace with India…if it had ever been possible then Pakistan wouldn’t have come to an existance and Muslims and Hindus would had been living peacefully in a united subcontinent.

  94. Pakistan should realize that india or their people will never ever be friend’s of Pakistan or our people .

  95. Aoa, nice article. marriges are setteled in heaven. No matter from where we belong. the main thing is the understanding & co operation. secondly we should not comparison this marrige with other marriage couples. God bless them & help them make this marriage successful. Ameen
