ISLAMABAD:

Adnan A Khawaja, ex managing director (MD) of Oil & Gas Development Company Limited’s (OGDCL) bail bonds were accepted and his release orders issued today according to his lawyer.

He was arrested after the Supreme Court’s (SC) orders yesterday while he was facing corruption charges in the court.

The SC had issued a contempt of court notice to Khawaja. He was arrested on the orders of the Supreme Court along with former Intelligence Bureau (IB) boss Brigadier (retd) Imtiaz.

The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was hearing a case concerning non-implementation of its NRO judgment.

The SC issued a contempt of court notice to Adnan Khawaja who was convicted by NAB in 2001 as a co-accused in a reference accusing the former IB chief of making illegal property. He was handed down a two-year jail sentence with a Rs0.2 million fine. He was also disqualified from holding public office for ten years.

Meanwhile, Adnan Khawaja requested the bench to accept his surety bonds and not send him to jail but the CJP rejected the request and directed him to approach the court as concerns the bail. The Chief Justice observed that their bail is ‘un-extendable’ until they deposit new surety bonds and those surety bonds would be decided on merit.

  1. So what was the issue if they were to be released on bail ??? Supreme Court could have done this then what was the point by disgracing this high official ??? This means that one has only to point out to Chief Sahib that look Sir, this or that officer has some links to someone in the PPP. Some sort of revenge is going on. What was wrong when one Journalist/Annalist pointed out that lot of “Wardaats” are being committed through subjective judgments. There are scores of cases against others which are more important but are not being taken up which proves that some Senior Judges have now become party to certain elements. They simply want the present government to move around on their knees, but why ??? Just imagine, Chief Sahib wants that the Prime Minister should write a letter to the Swiss authorities to open cases against the siting President Of his own country whereas the President has immunity under the Pakistan Law and International Convention. Moreover the Swiss authorities have already declared openly that it is not possible to do so. Are they ignorant about all these laws. One now feels that one day he might pull down the whole system so as to pave some way for the new set up which is so much being propagated both by planted persons in the media and some Poker Faced Politicians who are always there on “Waiting List”. Someone, somewhere told me that he is the only PCO Judge with lot of wishful ambitions for any substantial role in the new set up. Correct or not, wait is what we hypnotized rabbits can do.

  2. Honorable chief justice of Pakistan,
you are requested to please pass an order
in regarding the cases in lower courts
    still pending not decided.

  3. It is good to see the rule of law holding up. These chiefs of IB, for a long time have thought of themselves as kings. They are not, says the SC.

  4. Who is this young man Adnan Khawaji with larger than size image. What is his back ground and what are the cases against him. Is he a politician, bureaucrat or a bussinessman. Can any one put us wise ?

  5. @ Mr. Aftab this high official you are refering to carries lesser qualifications than a clerk in an organisation like OGDCL which has engineers carrying doctorates in hydrocarbons. It was a shame to have a appointed a person of this calibre as its MD.
Chief justice has saved this very strategic asset from being destroyed through corruption–The qualfication this gentleman had and for which he was punished by the accountablity court.
