Students brought Valentine’s cards and flowers on Monday to the detained self-confessed killer of one of Governor Punjab Salmaan Taseer.
Supporters of Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri gathered outside the high-security prison in Rawalpindi, where he was to appear before an anti-terrorism court.
Outside Adiyala prison, about 140 people rallied in support of Qadri, joined by 10 students from a government college who turned up with posters, Valentine’s cards and flowers.
“Celebrating Valentine’s Day with Mumtaz Qadri,” read one placard.
They handed over flowers and cards to jail officials who said they would give them to Qadri, as students from religious schools shouted “Free Qadri!”.
“We admit it is not our tradition and it is wrong to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but it is now widely celebrated and the media is full with Valentine’s Day activities,” student Hussain Ahmed, 22, told AFP at the jail.
“We love Qadri because he loves the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and that is why we have brought flowers and Valentine’s Day cards for him,” Ahmed said.
Qari Hanif Qureshi, a firebrand speaker and apparent inspiration for Qadri, also said Valentine’s Day was not Muslim.
“It is wrong to celebrate it, but since these students have come to express their love and support for Qadri, we cannot turn them away,” Qureshi told AFP.

You should read the Sirat Of Prophet ( PBUH) and sepacially read about the orders for blasphemours, and read how many Kufars were killed by Prophet’s (PBUH) own hands.
The signs of an open and non conservative society is for people to express their feelings, whether right or wrong (of course within limits of law and Islam). I think what this story shows is a good sign (as well as bad, for obvious reasons). We have people who support a murderer and I guess have similar feelings against Mr Taseer’s views that this murderer had, and are allowed to express it.
But ofcourse they didn’t agree with Mr Taseer’s right to express his opinions, which is really bad! We are unfortunately living in a society where some of Islam’s teachings are followed to the extreme (re-assessment of blashphemy law) while other Islamic teachings are totally ignored (killing one Muslim is same as killing all Mulsims).
In any case, this accused should be dealt with with regards to the law (preferrably Islamic law, but that seems to be hand-picked in our country).

Giving flowers to a male person by another male is a gay culture which is prohibited under Islamic law also comes under blasphemy. These identified persons to be hanged as per Islamic Law and Justice. Mullahs, issue fatwa for their immediate killing or otherwise u are not even Muslims by practice.

These so called right wing people are uneducated, immoral . They are the sole reason for defaming Islam> Blasphemy law needs to be amended and I salute Sherry Rehman because she was brave enough to try for it. And those who sent valentine gifts to that insane Qadri should read the story of the time when Prophet SAW conquered Makkah. The message of Islam of mercy and compassion has to be given to these barbarians. We need to have a law that no one can be an Imam of a masjid if he is not atleat BA Islamiat.
There is something more to it. Because it is too easy to prevent this and specially to prevent this from appearing in the media. For instance, the very episode of bringing the killer to a place where he could be showered with petals. All this could have been avoided very easily and it is done in various cases as a matter of routine.
All this seems too orchestrated. Somebody wants to keep extremism alive to be able to play with it for negotiations at an international level and to keep a rationale for military presence in policy making institutions. As all this only weakens governance.
