ISLAMABAD:
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has registered fourteen new political parties, except for former president Pervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), Express 24/7 reported on Wednesday.
Sources have said that the APML was handed a rejection because two other parties with the same name had also tried to register with the ECP.
Musharraf had launched the APML in October last year and had recently announced that he would return to Pakistan in 2012, in order to participate in the 2013 elections.
The ECP also decided to form a tribunal to hear election petitions and said the cases will be decided within four months.
A door-to-door process for voter registration will begin on July 18. The data is expected to be compiled into an electronic list.
The ECP has also stated that 23 by-polls held after the 18th Amendment need parliamentary approval and asked that an amendment be brought in for legal cover.

Nothing to worry about…it’s a trivial issue and will be sorted.
Musharraf is a true patriot and he should come back and do politics.
The ECP should allow not more than five political parties, by taking results of the previous elections since 1970. Those parties that got seats in two provinces should be among the five
and to place them on the table they are PPP, ANP, JUI, PML, and Independents. It would depend whether MQM would be able to win seats in Punjab if by election were held to become the fifth party. ECP should advise all other parties to amalgamate with like minded political party from among the five; provided the politicians pray for wisdom and skills and not to enhance their self-centered ego.
Looks like the rejections is temporary as two other parties with the same name had also tried to register with the ECP. but I think Mushi is over.. done ….forget him…
It only goes to show that recently constituted “Independent Election Commission” is NOT independant after all!! They are pleasing their masters, either the Lion of Punjab or PPP. It goes to show that they are afraid to have Musharraf in the field. But not to worry from setbacks come more opportunities.
Mush is stupid. This is good. Dictators should not be allowed to have their own political parties even after resignation

If you call allowing the religious parties to gain a larger hold of the population through vote rigging, yes he wants to help the country.

When Musharraf took over, Pakistanis all over the world rejoiced. Why? Because he got rid of the corrupt leaders, put the economy on track like no other, built better education, lowered corruption etc. etc. So yes, leading GDP growth to 8% – 9%, leading Pakistan into the N-11 (per Goldman Sachs) economic countries, reducing corruption to rank Pakistan 46th from 2nd most corrupt country, increasing multifold spenditure on healthcare and education, record profits from national treasures like the railways and steel mill, on and on. How we wish Pakistan was on the same track now as it was when Musharraf was in power. Are you happy with the present setup? If so you deserve it.
