Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) has asked the government as to how it allowed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi – a public servant – to also work for a private company.
In its letter, dated February 12, 2014, written by the TIP Chairman Sohail Muzaffar to Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Secretary Muhammad Ejaz Chaudhry, the TIP said it received a complaint, claiming that the PCB chairman, being a public servant, could not work for a private company.
“ [The complainant also asks as to] how the Prime Minister was misguided by the principal accounting officer, and the PM allowed a private commercial company employee, who is drawing about Rs35 million annually as remuneration, [to be] appointed as interim chairman PCB on 23 June 2013, and now chairman PCB,” the letter said.
A letter said a government servant could not work for any private commercial company, ‘that too which is doing business with the same department, the PCB in this case’. The letter said Zaka Ashraf, when he took over as PCB chairman was the head of Zarai Taraqiati Bank, but he had to resign from that post to comply with rules.
