The Crime Investigation Department (CID) claimed to have apprehended an alleged member of a banned outfit and a murderer on Wednesday.
CID officials said that Shakeel alias Zaheer Piyala was arrested during a targeted raid at Liaquat Chowk in Gulbahar locality, adding that a pistol and a Kalashnikov were seized from his possession. They said that during interrogation, the accused revealed his affiliation with the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan and confessed to have killed at least four people on sectarian grounds.
The accused was also questioned about high-profile sectarian killings in Karachi, particularly that of Allama Akbar Kumaili, son of Jafaria Alliance Pakistan chief Allama Abbas Kumaili. In another raid, a suspect, Faizan Qayyum, was arrested by CID in Bhittaiabad area of Sacchal. The suspect had been nominated in the murder of Pakistan Muslim League- Functional’s Abdullah Gopang in May 2013.
