Taliban militants shot dead a local elder Malik Namat in Mattani area just outside his house Sunday night.

PESHAWAR: Talking to The Express Tribune, DSP Badhaber Abidur Rehman confirmed that Malik Namat had been shot dead and there was also a small blast in the market.

“I am not sure about the nature of the blast but the death of Malik Namat is confirmed,” he added.

Local residents said that around a dozen militants came to the area and shot Namat dead outside his house. He was known as a pro-government and pro-police figure in the area.

One boy was left seriously injured in the firing. Militants also blew up a market before escaping.

“It happened around 9:30 pm when many people were still in the market,” said a local resident, adding that this caused panic in the area.
