KARACHI:

Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan was defeated 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the JSW PSA Indian Circuit 2 event by Egypt’s Zahed Mohamed in Mumbai, India.

Asim was humbled in the first game, but put up a brave show in the second only to lose it in the end; and this set the platform for Mohamed to win with scores of 11-6, 11-9 and 11-7.

Earlier, the Lahore-based youngster had produced a stunning performance, beating England’s Angus Gillams 3-2 despite being down 2-0 initially and winning with scores of 8-11, 4-11, 11-8, 11-6 and 11-4.

National coach Jamshed Gul rates Asim among the best upcoming players from Pakistan besides Asian junior champion Tayyab Aslam and his predecessor Ali Bokhari.

Meanwhile, Ammar Fareed’s journey also saw a similar end as he was defeated 3-0 by another Egyptian, Shehab Essam Hosny.

However, Fareed refused to go down without a fight, taking all the frames to the last before his opponent won 12-10, 15-13 and 11-9.
