Pakistan, Afghanistan pledged to continue operation on their respective side of the borders and vowed not to let any use their soil against each other’s country.
The Army Chief, accompanied by Director General of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar, arrived in Kabul on Tuesday on a day-long visit for talks on security issues amid warm military-to-military relations.
General Raheel Sharif, leading a high level delegation, called on President Ashraf Ghani at the Presidential Palace in the afternoon.
According to sources the army chief also raised the issue of the handover of six suspects of the attack on Army Public School attack who had been arrested in Afghanistan.
Last week during a media briefing, the army spokesperson Maj Gen Asim Bajwa said that the six men suspected of being involved in APS attack had been arrested by the Afghan authorities on intelligence passed on by Pakistan.
During a meeting between COAS and Afghan president, both appreciated the improving relationships between neighbouring countries. According to Inter Services Public Relations, they further pledged to continue security operations against extremist elements on their respective sides of borders and vowed not to let their soils be used against other.
“The Army Chief also apprised the Afghan president of Pakistan’s efforts to push the peace process forward,” a Pashto-language statement from issued by the Palace said.

“The messages from the Pakistani delegation were positive and their commitments have raised hopes that results will be clear within weeks.”
“The Afghan gov’t hopes that the Pakistani pledges and steps will yield positive results,” the statement further said.
The army chief also met Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah during his visit. Abdullah acknowledged the positive developments in bilateral relations between two countries including progress in operations, border management and intelligence sharing.
Earlier ISPR said the army chief and ISI chief had arrived in Kabul on a one-day visit to discuss matters pertaining to security.

Gen Raheel was in Kabul two months ago, a day after the horrific attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar to hold key meetings with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and ISAF commander in Kabul.
During that meeting, Ghani had assured General Sharif that Afghan soil would not be allowed for terrorist activities against Pakistan, and any signature found in this regard will be immediately eliminated.

Further, the ISAF commander had assured the army chief of their complete support in eliminating terrorists in his areas of responsibility.

Well, if that General of yours continues flying to Kabul making demands and not reciprocating with action I can tell you I know Afghans and that well will dry up very quickly. It won’t matter how many Ghani’s are in the room to greet him and his mustache.

I think our Afghan brothers well know they were being rented by Indian intelligence to harm Pakistan. They also know it is in their interests now to work with Pakistan (and vice versa).
Soon ISI will have an even more detailed picture of how RAW funded, armed and directed the TTP, BLA and BRA for terror attacks inside Pakistan.
I am grateful for our Afghan brothers co-operation after the murder of 132 children by Indian backed terrorists operating out of Afghanistan.
@objective observer, very well said. One thing is clear that the circumstances have changed. That the COAS & ISI has to be in Kabul every month. To his credit Ghani is playing his cards cleverly & support for terrorism has almost dried up. There is no place for the fish to swim. Bringing China on board is the biggest achievement of Karzai & Ghani regimes. People of Afghanistan need to show patience with Ghani unity govt. I know from the Afghan main stream & social media specially Pashto media is not happy with Ghani risking slow down in relationship with India but bigger objective is to achieve peace at affordable price. May there be peace on both sides of Durand Line.

The same old song and dance. Blah blah boom blazay boom. Afghans need sincere guarantees that Pakistan will reciprocate by expelling Quetta Shura and Haqqani Network from its soil. It takes two to tango.
After the attack at school general ran to Kabul demanding mullah Fazlu and now he demands only the five suspected ones.. in couple of months he wouldn’t want anything… I still rememebr pakistani’s comments on this very website that were quoting “hot pursuit.. taking action, nuking kabul,….. you poeple need to calm down abit and think logically.
We have made it clear – hand us over haqani alive or dead, dismantle queta shura then we are happy to cooperate. Ghani is showing his soft side and I believe he will hand over those five suspects to Pakistani authorities but as you know there are hundreds of such culprits that can be taken to courts only on mutuall cooperation not on demands from one side only.
That’s not how things work between government. In order to extradite someone there is a due process. You just cannot demand it. Remember India had been asking to handover some real notorious terrorists for quite some time now. And what was our response?

What Pakistan did and is doing to India, it is getting back on the same terms and conditions from Afganistan. Wow. What is good for the goose is good for the gander as well.
