ISLAMABAD:
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday authorised inquiries against former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and former water and power secretary Shahid Rafi, among others.
Both have been accused of corruption and misuse of authority in awarding a 220MW rental power project (RPP) contract to Reshma Power Generation Limited, causing a loss of Rs892.609 million to national exchequer.

The meeting, chaired by NAB chief Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, also authorised an investigation against Young Gen Power Limited, Ashraf, Rafi, PEPCO MD Fazal Ahmad Khan, NPGCL former CEO Rafiq Butt, former finance director Ejaz Babar, and others.

This has been going on for so long that some of the people are dead or gone away to green pastures. Nothing will result.
NAB appears to be a body that issues ‘ Good Conduct ‘ certificates after gently slapping the looters & plunderers on the wrist and extracting a minor fee for their troubles.
Such inquiries are timed to Khursheed Shah’s alliances with PTI etc. Unless cases against the brothers are opened such reports should be ignored. The accused know this.

However, the report does nothing to dispel the impression that the exercise of the newly-acquired, and perhaps most powerful lobby-backed courage now being displayed by NAB remains focused on relatively small-scale scandals involving mostly Sindh-based officials.
And shockingly, the really big resourceful and sophisticated sharks whose period of activity spans decades and who have successfully managed to rob this poor, unfortunate country of astronomical amounts remain untouched.
